Unconventional and innovative, Nicholas Simmons brings a breath of fresh air to water-media techniques. Simmons reveals how challenges unique to water-media can be turned to the artist’s advantage, with stunning results. He incorporates blooming, crawl-backs, bleeding and puddling, and demonstrates methods for integrating masked areas with wet-in-wet painting.... Click here for more information.

Heads up, Artists!
Have you got some art supplies, equipment, or paintings that are taking up space in your studio? We have a solution for you! We are going to give you the chance to sell those extra supplies to another deserving artist. Bring your items to the UWS Members Only Swap Meet to be held before our May Member's Meeting on May 1st, 2012. Starting at 7:00 pm, we will have some tables outside our meeting room at the Gail Miller Conference Center for you to display your stuff.
Here are the ground rules:
You must handle all cash and swap transactions. The UWS cannot be involved in this exchange of money and products.
You are encouraged to set-up your supplies for sale about 15 minutes before 7pm.
All things must be removed by 9pm.
Only UWS members are allowed to display and sell things.
Since we are having a special swap meet for everyone, we are asking that there be no sales at any UWS meetings, workshops, or functions during the year.
Come at 7pm for the swap meet and stay for Nicholas Simmons.
See You There! Joyce
WORKSHOPS
Zarzuela by Nicholas Simmons
April 30 - May 4 Spring Workshop
Nicholas Simmons paints in watermedia on a scale that rivals oil painting. The subject matter is a dazzling mix of figures juxtaposed with printed lettering, graffiti, Japanese block prints, neon lights, reflections, and lavish corners of nature. The effect can be disorienting, as though a camera has taken a picture by accident, revealing an image that is both exciting and mysterious. The paint itself swirls, floods, drips, and spatters, driven on by the general excitement of the imagery and giving the work a sense that it was done in a rush in a matter of minutes.
