Andi Jorgensen has illustrated a children’s book! After working on this for a year and a half her efforts can be appreciated and supported by purchasing this lovely little book on Amazon. The title is Oiseau: The Magical Bird (written by Debra Wosnik).

Neena Plant will be participating in Salt Lake City’s first valley-wide artist open studio tour this coming October 12-13, 10-6 daily and wanted to make sure you SAVE THE DATE!
Because SLC has never had an event like this, imagine the Parade of Homes for art studios located across the valley. This will be great way to meet artists, see their studios and work, ask questions and have a fun weekend learning about Salt Lake’s incredible art culture.

Kristi Grussendorf, BFA, AWS, NWS, TWSA, WFWS (also signature member of UWS & past president), is holding open studio classes on Thursdays from 6-8 PM and Saturday mornings from 10 to noon. A punch card sells for $100 ($10/hour) & can be used at your convenience (just reserve your spot in advance, please). Although her studio is in North Logan, UT, special arrangements for a longer session or a different day can be made for three or more students traveling together.
Individual constructive critiques, student requested demonstrations & positive support/ encouragement are Kristi’s strong suits. As a past “workshop junkie,” her tool box is full & she loves to share what she has learned!
“When five very creative artists set off to interpret the figure in paint, you may be sure there will be some surprises.
As many different interpretations as there are artists and subjects.
And who knew “figures” might include dogs and lizards?

UWS signature member Roland Lee exhibited over 100 paintings at a 40-year retrospective solo show at the Dixie State University Sears Art Museum June – August 2019. His painting “A Time of Peace” was purchased by the St. George Art Museum for their permanent collection. His second hardcover book of watercolor paintings, “Discovering Zion, A Pictorial Guide to Zion National Park, “was released in September 2019. He was also selected as a juror for the 2019 Wasatch Plein Air event in Utah.

The John Wesley Powell 150th River Festival and Fine Art Contest took place in Vernal, Utah , June 20 – 22, 2019.
Among the UWS members involved were Deena Millecam, who coordinated the art event and Tom Howard, who was the Juror.
UWS Artists who won awards were:
Lori D. Burchinal – First Place Watercolor
Brenda Brunello – Third Place Watercolor
Roxane Pfister – Third Place Oils
UWS member Brad Kropp (Cache Valley Chapter) and his brother Steve are showing their work in the Logan Library (255 Main St, Logan, UT) during the month of June. Brad works in watercolor and recently returned to painting after retiring from a career in biology. Steve paints mostly with oils and now does landscapes after spending much of his career as an illustrator.
Karen Lee Heffernan
Holladay, UT-Karen Lee Heffernan (74), who loved widely and deeply, and was loved in return by all who met her, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2019, after a hard-fought battle with CIDP. Karen had a lifelong love for art and was an award-winning member of the Utah Watercolor Society.
UWS member, Sherry Meidell, is having a one woman show at the West Bountiful City Offices 550 N. 800 W. West Bountiful, Utah 84087 for the duration of her 18 month mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she will be learning the Hakka and how to surf in Hawaii, among other things. She will be posting on her blog http://sherrymeidell.wordpress.com from time to time. You can see some of her smaller works at Lynda Nelson’s Workshop Gallery at 6237 S. Highland Dr. Salt Lake City, Utah.
UWS Member Becky Hartvigsen is teaching painting classes at her home every Friday.
