Description
Jana Parkin has been teaching art and design at the college level for over 20 years, both in California and here in Utah.
She is a multi-award-winning watercolor painter, and a long-time member and avid friend of the Utah Watercolor Society.
What makes her uniquely qualified for this particular workshop is the pen-and-ink technique she learned from her architect/artist/educator father, Dr. Nathan B. Winters.
In her classes, Jana loves to point out the “control” portion of each technique, and how that frees up spontaneity in some other aspect of the painting.
In this case, the ink drawing becomes both the value study and the “control” portion of these projects. You’ll learn how to build up values using ink, how to describe planes, angles and contours, how to vary your mark-making, and how to render a variety of textures (and develop our own linework vocabulary), and improve the expressive quality of your ink work. For those of you who love to obsess over detail, this is a great way to shine, without ruining or overworking your watercolor! She’ll also show you how to create an effective and eye-pleasing vignette. Bonus: You’ll also learn an easy way to test your pens for water fastness.
