APRIL workshop 2023
with Sue Martin
teaching the Language of Abstractions
In this workshop, you’ll take leave of reality and playfully focus on shapes, line, color,
value, and texture to create expressive abstract paintings. Some say abstraction looks
easy (“My dog could paint that!”), but if you’ve tried it, you may have experienced that
panic of uncertainty as you wonder where to begin, how to achieve balance, and when
to declare it finished. It can feel as risky as sky diving, untethered from the reality of
your safe landscapes and still lifes. In this workshop, with Sue Martin as your guide,
you’ll explore processes that feel more liberating than risky, and you’ll discover a new
language of expression.
Sue Martin is a “second career” artist with 25 years of experience. She works in
watercolor, mixed water media, acrylic, and oils, in an evolving visual language of
shape, color, and pattern. Sue holds a B.F.A. degree from the U of U and is a signature
member of UWS and the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies. For more about
Sue and her work, visit her web site: www.suemartinfineart.com.
