No images or entries accepted after the deadline.
Entries cannot be accepted if details, images, and fees are not received by the deadline.
Entry fees are non-refundable.
CALENDAR OF EVENTS
19 December 2025 – Entry deadline (11:59 pm)
27 December 2025 – Accepted paintings notification via email
7 January 2026 – Deliver paintings to gallery (2–6 pm)
6 January 2026 – UWS Monthly Meeting at SUP, 7 pm (accepted paintings may be brought)
9 January 2026 – UWS Opening Reception & Awards (6 pm)
2 March 2026 – Last day of exhibition
2 March 2026 – Pick up paintings (9 am–9 pm)
ENTRY DETAILS
- Maximum 3 entries per participant
- UWS members: $20 first entry, $15 for 2nd & 3rd
- Students: $15 per entry
- Non-members: $40 per entry
- No refunds for non-compliance
- Full-time Utah high school or college students eligible for student rate
- Students juried under same criteria as other entrants
- Online entry through ArtCall only
- Artists must have or create ArtCall account
- Visit https://www.utahwatercolor.org if new to ArtCall
- During entry, submit painting title, medium, size, price
- Paintings must be for sale (remember 30% venue commission)
- Upload image of painting only (no frame/mat)
- Optional: biography and artist statement
- Read Prospectus carefully before paying—ensure work meets criteria
- Contact Exhibition Coordinator with questions
- Non-members encouraged to join to save on entry fees
Special Considerations
Paintings must reflect the mission of Red Butte Gardens:
“connect people with plants and the beauty of living landscapes.”
Plants, flowers, trees, or pollinators must play a significant role.
Landscapes are acceptable.
Figures/animals may be included but the focus must be botanical.
TERMS & CONDITIONS
- Open to all UWS members
- All work must be original
- No copies, likenesses, or work created under instruction
- All reference photos must be taken by the artist
- No copyrighted sources
- Work must be completed in the last two years
- Must not have been exhibited in UWS or WFWS juried exhibitions
- Must be on natural/synthetic paper, paperboard, or watercolor linen/canvas board
- Must be water media in aqueous manner
- Acceptable: watercolor, gouache, water-based dyes, ink, acrylic, casein, egg tempera
- No clayboard
- No water-based oils or alcohol-based dyes
- No 3D art
- No digital art
- Collage must use paper painted by artist
- Mixed media must be at least 75% water-based media
- Unframed image must not exceed 80 sq in (e.g., 8”×10”)
- Uploaded images must be cropped to painted area only (no borders)
FRAMING
- Ready to hang with wire
- Floated on white mat or traditionally matted with white mat
- No colored, black, or off-white mats/liners
- Must have professional backing
- All works must be framed
- Simple frames and Plexiglas preferred
ENTRY FOLLOW-UP
- Artists responsible for tracking ArtCall status
- Results sent via email; check spam folder if missing
- Paintings altered after acceptance will be disqualified
- Artwork must match submitted image exactly
- Artists responsible for delivery and pickup
- All shipping/handling costs paid by artist
- Accepted works must remain for duration of show unless sold
- No substitutions or withdrawals after acceptance
- Withdrawn or disqualified artists may face restrictions
- No changes allowed after submission deadline
- Entry constitutes contract with gallery for sale handling
- UWS not responsible for damage or loss
- Upon acceptance, artist grants perpetual permission for UWS to use images for education, publicity, newsletters, archives, etc.
