Message from Sherry Meidell, incoming UWS president for 2021-2022 |
“There are many kinds of study. Those whose study is of the real and rare kind get the habit. They can’t throw it off. It’s too good. They go on studying all their lives, and they have wonderful lives.” This is a quote by Robert Henri from his book “The Art Spirit.” One of his ties to Utah is that he taught Minerva Teichert, and his book is filled with wonderful inspiration for artists. I loved going to the Metropolitan Museum in New York and seeing one of his paintings hanging on the wall. One of the best places I have found through the years for inspiration and continued learning and studying, has been the Utah Watercolor Society. I used to go and sit on the back row and suck up as much information as I could from the demos. Then I would use that information to improve my watercolor paintings. There is also something about putting your artwork out there. The shows sponsored by the Utah Watercolor Society gave me the opportunity to be rejected, rejected, and accepted. I’ve had the opportunity to have the best of show painting and the quiet opportunity for a painting that I’ve loved getting no award. There are things to learn from both. So I went from sitting quietly on the back row and leaving without talking to a soul, to forming some great friendships with other members. I have found that you can learn a lot from the artists around you and they influence your life for good. So this is the year. I’m excited to be serving as your upcoming president. I hope to grow and share some great experiences with you in this year of excitement, creation and learning. You can find out more about me by checking out my blog at http://SherryMeidell.wordpress.com Sherry Meidell’s Teeter Totter Tales, and at my YouTube channel Sherry Meidell. Here is another quote from Henri: “Do not let the fact that things are not made for you, that conditions are not as they should be, stop you. Go ahead anyway. Everything depends on those who go on anyway.”Thanks Roxane Sherrywww.sherrymeidell.com |
