![]() ![]() SeptemberBlast ![]() President’s Little Bits a message from Sherry Meidell So I get my paints out and spray them to life. I pull out a sheet of 300 lb. hot press. I put pencil in hand and warm up my sketching arm. The sun is shining in my studio window and I…… the phone rings. A son needs someone to watch his kids while he plays at a bagpipe festival. It will be a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Do we haul the trailer down to Moab with his kids and have an unexpected camp trip and scots festival? It takes 45 minutes to find out details, see if there is a camping spot, pay for the reservation and then back up into my studio. How do we paint when life swirls around us? Here’s a few things I do: 1. Plan for interruptions. Always start early on a painting or creative project. 2. Always enter shows early. 3. Make creating a priority. I find the time when time is tight 4. Bring your sketch book and travel paints with you on trips. There are paintings all around you. 5. Bring your camera with you and if you don’t have a camera, get your cell phone out and take pictures. 6. Always start. If you don’t have time to do a whole painting then get your paints out and get ready. 7. When you finish painting for the day, run through your mind where you are going to start painting the next morning so you can hop right into the painting. 8. Just paint. Don’t listen to all the excuses that your anti-painting self can dredge up from the dark depths of I. Can’t, I shouldn’t, and why? 9. Take a bit of time to reflect on the pure joy that painting has brought to you and your life. 10. Remember that painting puts you into a frame of mind where time does not exist and you get to witness creativity and magic happen right before your eyes. -Sherry www.sherrymeidell.com blog: http://sherrymeidell.wordpress.com September 7, 2021 General meeting Creativity Barbara Kidd and Sherry Meidell ![]() ![]() ![]() Above, Evening Fire by Joyce Baron UWS September 7, 2021 General Meeting,IN PERSON at SUP! I am very excited to announce a new program called “Women in Watercolor Artist of the Week”. Each week we will feature a watercolor painting that was entered into the Women in Watercolor International Juried Competition, but just didn’t get in. We had over 1600 entries this year from over 50 countries and unfortunately, only 170 made the cut. There were so many other works of art that were exceptional, we just had so many, and there was no way to include them all. This new program was inspired by our first ever Artist of the Week, VERNA HENDRICKS. Her painting caught my eye, and after emailing with her back and forth and learning what a wonderful artist and just all-around fantastic person she is, I came up with this new program. The goal of Women in Watercolor is to help encourage, support, and promote the outstanding women that are working in this medium on an international level. This is just yet another way to build each other up, learn from each other and increase our individual and overall success!Thank you to all of you who entered the contest for keeping me and so many others artists inspired. @watercolor2000 Lynn D.
