I am a narrative illustrator and fantasy artist. I love the process of seeing an image in my mind and turning it into something everyone can see and understand. If I had to tell you my favorite things to draw (which I don’t, but I’m going to anyway), it would be the fantastical, historical, or any story with quirky or fun characters. Of course, all three of those things would be amazing! If you cannot attend in person, please join with Zoom: Time: Nov. 2, 2021 07:00 PM Mountain Time (US and Canada) Join Zoom Meeting Meeting ID: 759 847 1733 Passcode: watercolor |

Arts in the Park – The Quick Drawby Sherry MeidellIf someone were to ask you to come spend a day in the great outdoors in the snow and bitter cold, grasping a watercolor brush with frozen fingers and trying to paint with watercolor that had turned into ice crystals, you might gladly decline. That was day one of Arts in The Parks. But what an adventure and fun time would have been missed if you had decided to let a little snow stop you. It renews your spirit to be outdoors surrounded by beauty. It sparks your mind to be surrounded by other artists who are intent on creating beautiful watercolor paintings or at least have something worthy of hanging in the auction Saturday night. I spent time discussing the art form of making miniature books. I discovered the writer of several of the “Books for Dummies” in our midst. I learned about shellacking pages of sketchbooks to use for painting with casein. I learned of the ingenuity of one artist who brought a hair blower which he plugged into a tree to dry his painting and warm his hands.I met Maura’s Irish sisters again. And every year I ask her what her maiden name is and it’s always the same, Naughton. Artists were spread all over the park but came together at the amphitheater for the QuickDraw. It was fun to see most of the artists in one place. A few were not there, eating hamburgers, trying to find out where to turn in their paintings, and I’m sure someone was wandering around Loa trying to get directions to Torrey. It was another great year meeting new friends and connecting with old friends from the watercolor society, Entrada, and Capitol Reef National Park. |

A Message from Maggie Harrison regarding Arts and the Park Hello all this is Maggie Harrison new lead for Arts and the Park. We enjoyed a cold and colorful event at Capitol Reef. We sold 41 paintings and some of us danced to the fine music on Saturday If you’re a former attending artist or avid plein air participant, I would appreciate your feedback. Any ideas you have?. Any gripes? Do you like the change in season? Suggested improvements? Are you planning to come next year? Thanks, Maggie [email protected] |
