As summer is ending and school is beginning, I find it interesting that as much as I love summer, the routine of school starting brings great relief. It is a nice time to reset and evaluate the things I want to accomplish much like the beginning of a new year. I really do thrive on having a predictable routine.
Throughout my life I have been very good at setting time for exercise and for doing the things that yell at me the loudest depending on the season. I have not been as good at setting aside time to do my personal artwork. It is something that I am working on.
I recently listened to a podcast where someone was coaching another person on something that she was struggling to do. It was something she wanted to do, but she was allowing other things to get in the way. As I listened to this, I recognized that I let other things get in the way of me doing my personal artwork and that if I truly want to do it, I need to set time aside for it and that I can’t allow other things to take over.
So, as we are approaching a new beginning with the school year, I am going to make a plan that will also help me accomplish some goals I have and I will be setting some regular time aside to do my own work. If you struggle to keep your commitments to yourself whether it is making sure you make time to work on your art or something else, now is a good time to renew your commitment to yourself. So, let’s start again with the beginning of the school year and make the best of our time and use this time to accomplish those things we want to do, but haven’t yet.
