UWS Spring Open Exhibition
Please read carefully.
This exhibition is open to UWS members and nonmembers who reside in Utah.
- Deadline for entries: Monday, April 1, 2024, at 8:00 pm
- Exhibition dates: May 10 to June 13, 2024
- Gallery hours: Monday – Friday 12:00 to 6:00 p.m.
- Water media work only, completed within the last two years.
- Traditional watercolor framing with white mat only, glass or plexiglass.
- Unframed image is to be no smaller than 100 square inches, no larger than 660 square inches.
- Maximum of three entries per participant. UWS members – $20 for the first entry, $15 each for second and third entries. Students – $20 per entry. Non-members* – $50 per entry. (No refunds for entries that are not in compliance with the Prospectus guidelines and requirements)
- Work entered in this show must be for sale. (40% gallery commission will be deducted from all sales)
- Online entry only. Go to http://uws2024springexhibition.artcall.org to register online.
- Entered pieces cannot have been previously accepted into a juried show such as Fall, Spring, or WFWS.
Drop off and pickup locations will be available in the SLC area.
All paintings accepted for exhibit in the UWS Spring Show are eligible for the Utah Division of Arts and Museum’s Traveling Show. 24 to 26 will be selected for the traveling exhibit. They will be picked up at the gallery at the show’s end and will travel for 1 (one) year, hanging at different sites around the state. When you deliver your painting, you will be asked to sign a form if you do NOT want your work to be included in this exhibit. Please see the link for more information about the show.

Feb 6 Online Registration opens
April 1 Entry deadline by 8:00 pm including entry details, payment, and digital image
April 10 Accepted paintings notification via email.
May 2 Deliver paintings to the gallery between 12:00 and 2:00 p.m. Salt Lake drop off information below.
May 7 UWS Monthly Meeting – Painting demonstration by Iain Stewart – 7:00 p.m. at SUP
May 10 UWS Opening Reception and Awards Presentation – 6:00-8:00 pm
June 13 Last day of exhibit
Jun 14 Pick up paintings at the gallery. Salt Lake pickup information below.
Salt Lake City drop off date is May 1 between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.

Salt Lake pick up date is June 15 between 10 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. at the same address.

For this exhibition, the Utah Watercolor Society (UWS) will be using ArtCall. Artists must create an ArtCall
user account (see information below).
Entry fees: UWS members – $20 for the first entry, $15 each for the second and third entries. Students – $20 perentry. Non-members* – $50 per entry.
Students. Full-time students in high school or college are eligible to enter as a student. Students will bejuried into the exhibition with the same criteria as other entrants.

No refunds will be given once payment is received. Please read the Prospectus carefully. Before you pay in ArtCall make sure your painting fits the criteria.
Entry website. http://uws2024springexhibition.artcall.org/. During online entry, submit the painting title, medium, size, price, and image (painting only, no frame or mat) for each entry. Optionally, artists may also submit a biography and an artist statement. Paintings must be for sale. Please take the 40% gallery commission intoconsideration when pricing your painting.

Terms and Conditions for Entry:
Compliance with all terms and conditions for entry into this exhibition is required. The UWS Exhibition Committee reserves the right to refuse any work for unacceptable quality, improper framing, damage caused by shipment, or non-compliance with these terms and conditions. Any work, once selected by the juror, later found
to be out of compliance with any term or condition, will be disqualified from exhibiting. Any artist who submits work that is later disqualified or who withdraws work once selected may be banned from participation in UWS sponsored exhibitions for a period of up to two years. The UWS Exhibition Committee’s determinations and decisions are final.
Entry in this show is open to UWS members and artists who reside in Utah. Participants are limited to a total of three (3) entries. No refunds will be given once payment is received.
All work must be original. No copies or likenesses of another artist’s work or works created under instruction should be submitted. All reference photographs must be taken by the artist. Use of copyrighted sources is strictly prohibited.
All works must have been completed within the last two years and may not have been previouslyexhibited in a juried show sponsored by the Utah Watercolor Society or WFWS.
All works must be on natural or synthetic paper or paperboard, rendered in water media and painted in a primarily aqueous manner.
Acceptable water media includes watercolor, gouache, ink, acrylic, casein, egg tempera. Anyquestions on acceptable media should be discussed with the Exhibition Coordinator, prior toentry submission.
No clay board or canvas.
No water-based oils.
No alcohol-based dyes.
No 3-dimensional art.
No digital art.
A work that is primarily collage must use water media paper painted by the artist.
Work that is mixed media/collage must use at least 75% water-based media in conjunction with other media, such as pastel, ink, crayon, casein, egg tempera, and printed collage papers. These other media must not be the dominant element.
The unframed image may be no smaller than 100 square inches.
The unframed image may be no larger than 660 square inches or 22”x30”.
Do not include the frame when determining size.
To determine eligible size, multiply height by width of unframed painting. The resulting number must be 100 or greater. For example, 8”x 10” = 80 square inches (too small) or 10”x 10” =100 square inches (eligible for entry).
Accepted paintings must be ready to hang with wire supports.
Paintings may be floated on a WHITE MAT or matted with a WHITE MAT in the traditional way.
Colored, black, or off-white liners or mats are not acceptable.
Stable and professional backing material is required.
All works must be framed. Simple frames and Plexiglas™ are preferred.
Entry follow-up: Artists are responsible for following up on their ArtCall entries. Entry results will be sent by email on the date given in ArtCall. If you haven’t received an email by the stated date, check your junk or spam mailboxes first, then contact the Exhibition Coordinator if you still have questions.
Paintings may not be changed or painted upon after juror selection and admission into the exhibition or they will be disqualified. They must look exactly like the photos submitted to ArtCall.
Unpainted borders of the completed works may not show in the uploaded ArtCall image. Works must becropped to the edges of the painted area only or they may be disqualified.
All works must be original. No copies or likenesses of another artist’s work (including photography) orworks created under instruction or paid supervision should be submitted. Use of all copyrighted sourcesi s prohibited, with or without permission.
Entered pieces cannot have been accepted previously into a juried show such as UWS Fall and Spring,or WFWS.
Artists are responsible for delivery and pickup of selected work to and from the exhibition venue. See“Calendar of Events,” above, for artwork delivery and pickup dates.
All delivery costs, including shipping/handling fees where applicable, are the responsibility of the artist.
Works juried for this exhibition must be delivered for the exhibition dates and remain for the duration of the show unless sold.
Artists may not substitute another work for an accepted work, or withdraw the work onceselected by the juror. Work that is selected but not delivered to the exhibition venue is considered withdrawn. Artwork deemed out of compliance with this Prospectus’ terms and conditions is considered withdrawn.
A gallery commission of 40% will be deducted from all sales.
No changes in price or other entry details can be made after the submission deadline. By enteringthis show, the artist enters a contract with the gallery, which will be the acting agent for the saleof his/her artwork.
While care will be taken in handling entries and artwork, neither UWS nor its representative will be responsible for damage or loss from any cause.
Upon acceptance into this exhibition, each artist grants, in perpetuity, permission for UWS to publish digital and print images of his/her accepted artwork. These images may be used for the purpose of education, publicity to promote UWS exhibitions, digital and print UWS communications such as UWS Newsletter and archives.
