So here it is the end of January…where does the time go? Grateful for the few family gatherings we were able to have, mostly after the holidays were past and gone. Diane and I ended up catching the Dread Virus Roberts (Covid-19) just before Christmas, and it hung around for about a week. She caught it first, then I came down with it a few days later. The two of us finally managed to finish decorating our Christbaum the Sunday afternoon before New Year’s Eve, and sat down to a nice, quiet evening with only the tree lights, carols playing in the background, and exchanged our gifts to each other. This coming Sunday afternoon (2. February!) we’re having a couple of her daughters and one of my sons over with their families for a good ol’ fashioned Brats and Sauerkraut dinner. It’s been an interesting couple of months. Not a whole lot of snow this year, and the backcountry has been a bit sketchy in terms of high avalanche potential. Best to just stay in bounds for skiing and riding, where control work has been done.
It’s pretty cold now, so plein air painting has almost zero appeal. Fortunately, we just had a fantastic 2- day workshop with Jana Parkin, which sure got MY enthusiasm for creating art recharged! If you missed it, you REALLY missed a great time! I think we still have a few slots open for Ian Ramsay’s workshop happening 5-6 March and 7-8 March, 9:00am–4:00pm, also at the Sons of Utah Pioneers building, downstairs. That should keep us all in the watercolor painting mood! If you have paintings hanging at our Small Works Show in the Covey Center for the Arts in Provo, and they haven’t sold, remember to retrieve them on 5 March. Diane and I will be spending Valentine’s Day in St. George at the Sears Invitational Art Show; that should be a great time too!
This Tuesday night at 7:00pm, Susan McFarlane will be our guest artist. Susan has a world of experience to offer, and it’s sure to be a great presentation for all of us.
Don’t forget Geoff Allen‘s 4-day workshop scheduled for 7-10 May, along with our Spring Exhibition in The Attic at the Provo Library. Because it’s a 4-day workshop beginning on Wednesday, our May members meeting will be held on Thursday, 8. May that month, so we can all benefit from Geoff’s demonstration that night. Keep an eye on your email inbox for more information on registration for the workshop, and the prospectus for our Spring Exhibition, which Geoff will be judging. Happy painting!
Wishing you all the best,
