This workshop will be an intense sketching experience for all who attend. Don’t be intimidated by your skill level. It will be a no judgement zone but the experience
will improve your muscle memory and your observation skills. We will start where you are and go from there.
Day 1: Presentation on what to remember while drawing faces. Warm up with sketches in your sketchbook of the human face from photos of a plaster cast. We will discuss how angles, values, shapes and design enter into your thinking as a creator.
I will do a demo of drawing with the black conte crayon. We will do a portrait in Black conte crayon or compressed charcoal on grey toned charcoal paper using white pastel compressed chalk for high lights.
In the afternoon we will take our drawing and draw it on our watercolor paper and then using the values in our morning drawing we will add color
Day 2: Presentation on getting into the sketchbook habit. Warm up with sketches in your sketchbook. We will draw a value study in our sketchbooks of flowers followed about a discussion on design and what can we use to improve our value studies. We will then do an updated value study.
We will then draw our sketch for our watercolor directly on our watercolor paper and then paint the flowers using the value study for our reference.
