January 16, Saturday: Meet at the park and ride to ski lot on the north of the cement plant at 6200 south, Wasatch Boulevard. We can paint from our cars.

November 14th Lehi Roller Mills
Please join us for November’s outing on the 14th to paint Lehi Roller Mills. We’ll probably work from our cars. There’s a Maverick kitty corner from the Mill. See you there Utah County members!

We had a good turnout for the paint out in October at Wheeler Farm. A couple painted in oil, but we love them just the same!
September 12th: Mountain Dell Washington Park – Saturday the 12th the paint-out crew will meet at 10:00 am. From I-70 take the East Canyon exit to catch the frontage road parallel to the freeway on its north side. Travel east until there’s a turn back west. That is the entrance to Washington Park. What a great paint out this cool July evening! We were a mighty group this time, with 11 gathering in the cool breeze at the mouth of Emigration Canyon; so peaceful with great views. A few of us waited for the full sunset to crank out a fast second painting.

Are you fond of painting decrepit old dilapidated buildings and equipment? What about rusty mining machinery? If that’s your forte, you’ll love our August plein air paint out!
Gold Hill is a ghost of a mining town in the west desert, past Dugway and almost into Nevada.
Join us on August 10 for a dusty ride to a great location. Plan on the day being long and bring plenty of water and whatever you’d like for lunch and we can stop on the way home for dinner.
Because this is such a long trip, please sign up in advance by sending an email to [email protected] to arrange carpool transportation. It is highly recommended that any vehicle used for this trip be all-wheel or 4-wheel drive in case we encounter bad road conditions.
As with all paint outs, this is a rain or shine event. For any communication with the organizers the day before, or the day of the paint out, please call or text the number for Neena Plant-Henninger and/or Stephanie Carter-Nielsen from your membership directory, being sure to identify yourself in your text.
Carpool from Sons of Utah Pioneers:
7:30 AM – Drive via I-215 S, I-15 S, UT-73 W, & UT-199 W (160 miles) to arrive at 11:00 AM, paint for 2 – 3 hours (based on consensus, how hot and tired we are) then head back to the Salt Lake Valley, stopping for dinner along the way, again, based on consensus.
Everyone needs to bring sunblock, and bug repellant is recommended. We can come up with some exciting images for our upcoming membership shows, as well as other exhibition opportunities.

Greetings UWS Members! Just because we don’t have general meetings during the summer months doesn’t mean that we can’t get out and paint together. Please set aside the day and plan to bring your family, since they’ll have plenty of options for activities while we all paint. There’re many beautiful subjects that we can include, something for every style.
July is peak wildflower season, and there’s no shortage of them at our destination, Strawberry Reservoir, along with many other subjects to choose from.
During July, the fishing is best around 6:30 a.m. if you or your family are interested.

Art on the River: Plein Air Quick Draw Competition is a fun and fast-paced, plein air (open air) painting contest. The competition is open to youth (17 years and under) and professional or amateur artist (18 years and older). The field is limited to 35 artists on a first come basis. Paintings must be completed within a strict two-hour period (10:00 am – 12:00 pm). Participating artists may use any two-dimensional medium (oils, acrylics, pastels, watercolors, etc.). No photography or digital media are allowed.
Artists will have the opportunity to display their final artwork in South Jordan City Hall and the Gale Center Museum during the month of May.
Visit register.sjc.utah.gov to register. If registration is not filled beforehand, additional artists will be accepted by registering on the morning of the event. However, registration is extremely limited, so registering in advance is strongly advised.

What is Gilgal you might ask? It’s a sculpture garden, hidden away in a discreet corner of a Salt Lake City residential block. The entrance is sandwiched between two houses.
Maybe you’ve heard of this place. Maybe you haven’t. Paint a sphinx with the face of Joseph Smith, founder of our state’s founding religion, along with keystone arches and other varied sculpture and beautifully planted gardens which may just be starting to come back from their winter’s rest.
The Friends of Gilgal has consented to allow us to hold a paint out in this unique corner of our valley. Please join us to paint at this hidden treasure.
