It’s the end of another year and as most people do, I reflect on what my year was like. I accomplished some things, and then other goals I didn’t even get started on. Some of that was my own fault but some were out of my control. Whatever has happened this year, good or bad, I feel that I am more grateful for my art. Even when I am not creating my own work, there are always others that are. This year I have seen art as a big circle. Each artist puts his/her work and effort into a wheel of movement that never stops. It does not matter what is going on in the world. We create art when we are sad, when there is loss. We create art when we want to celebrate. The wheel never stops moving; the making of art never stops. I am grateful to be part of this big wheel. I am grateful for the influence that others have on me, the inspiration that they provide. I don’t love the frustration I feel from my own shortcomings, but I am also grateful for the lessons that I have learned because of them. I hope that as you find yourself reflecting on this past year you see your efforts, big or small, as something that is bigger than just yourself. That your art is part of influence, beauty, hope and connections to others that you may not even know.
Happiest of Holidays,
Marsha
