A Message from our CVC President, Marsha Dennis The new year is off and running. Running to the point that it is hard to keep up sometimes. I have tried to paint a great deal more than I usually do. Making time for what I love is difficult when life gets in the way. Trying to prepare paintings for this show or that show … the art fairs that I want to participate in. It gets to be overwhelming. I have had to step back a few times and remind myself that doing what I love, painting, should be just that; doing what I love. Yes, shows are important, and making progress on the goals that I have set is also important. But the process, the enjoyment and excitement that you can have while painting, are the most important. Have I entered some shows already this year? Yep, I sure have. Did I make it into all of them? Nope, I did not. Did it make me feel great? No, it didn’t. But getting into every show or being accepted by everyone is not possible. Maybe, this thought is just for me. If you find this message a little out there, disregard. But if you are like me, and you have had to step back and think about why you paint, you have looked for the joy that you know is there (if you allow it to be) . . . good for you! Keep it up and keep entering things. I have just accepted that not everyone will like my work, and that there is always someone better, or more experienced. Even so, I will continue to do what I love, I will continue to paint and create art, and I hope that you do too. The weather is going to turn better and the opportunities to paint outdoors will increase. This next month make sure you find joy in what you are doing and paint, paint, paint. |
