Perfectionism in art.
First of all, let me say, there is no such thing as a perfect painting, I used to think there was but, the more artists I study, and the more paintings I paint, I have come to believe that perfection is a myth and I have come to realize that some imperfections are what make us and our art interesting.
I see how flawed my paintings are but, it bothers me less and less. I notice the imperfections in my work and make note of it so I know how to improve the next time. But, I still show and sell those paintings, what I see as glaring imperfections don’t always bother others. |
We need to stop being perfectionists, fear of imperfection can stop us from trying, and stop us from improving. If we painted perfect paintings we would get bored, There would learn nothing new to learn. So don’t paint to make the perfect painting. Paint to learn, experiment, try new things, and don’t worry so much about making a perfect painting, it doesn’t exist. Take some pressure off, don’t worry, and enjoy yourself. You will find that you get a little better with each painting. |
