The last month has just flown buy. We have been getting ready for the small works show which is now up and going at Red Butte Garden In Salt Lake. It is a great show. We have 40 people participating with the majority putting in the 5 pieces allowed. There was only one person out of all the entries that forgot the theme was organic. After all the drilling into your heads I have done with the announcements.
I told them I was sooo sorry and they told me to leave my Marbles anyway. People played Marbles in gardens.🤪. I need to listen to my announcements ….and then I will get things straight. The one disappointment about the show is that we didn’t have a very good turnout for the opening. This has been the case for the openings since Covid. I really think we need to change this thinking. If you enter a show you really should make an effort to come to the opening and make it special. Gunther worked his head off getting this ready. I helped and Dewey came to check in paintings on Thursday. Crystal and Margo made a wonderful assortment of cookies and punch that was wonderful and hardly anyone came. We had already sold $900 worth of paintings by the time it opened. I remember Tom Howard winning Best of Show in Logan . I think it was last Spring and 3 people showed up. He said it was so disappointing to not have anyone to celebrate with. Then the show last Fall in Ogden there were only 2 of the award winners there to receive their awards. Maybe we need to see if people want awards and shows. It’s so much work to go to if no one is interested. We have had to scramble to find a place for this Springs show . We booked over a year ago and have had two different places cancel on us in that time . The last one was two weeks ago. I don’t need the stress. We have space now and will get it to you in a blast but I hope we have more interest in the future. It is for you the UWS members we go through all this work to make things nice for the group.
We have Michelle Nixon’s workshop this month which is sold out, but we are just starting to sell Ian Stewart’s workshop. He is an internationally known painter who is coming in to judge our Spring show. I hope you will take a look at his work and sign up for it. It’s coming in May. Let me know if you have someone you would really like to have come for a workshop. We will put them on our list. We are always on the lookout for new people…I hope you are all painting up a storm. It’s a crazy time of year, and our workshop and show schedule for the Summer has started up and I’m trying to schedule my time but that doesn’t always work with this job when things come up. I love the thought attached to this page when I get a little discouraged with how things are going. I hope it helps you remember things don’t have to be as bad as they seem.Becky
