Entrada Institute provides a unique residency during the first ten days in April 2024
Married Korean artists Chuni Park and Ji Oh Choi are launching their Painting the Parks project in Capitol Reef National Park. They plan to produce paintings and other artwork in most, if not all, of the country’s parks over the next few years. They have already spent long periods of time in Korea’s parks and remote areas painting as expressions of their love of nature. They have now begun to explore the vast natural areas of the United States.
After Park recently concluded his Baik Art Residency program at the 18th Street Art Center in Santa Monica, CA, the two began a tour of the American West. They surveyed future work sites like the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and the Pacific Coastline. They established Hood River, OR, as home base. Park typically uses traditional Korean art materials, such as Hanji paper and soot ink, to capture the grand mountainous landscape around him. Choi, who uses acrylic materials in her painting, explores details in nature, her dreams, and spirituality. Her more colorful work often contrasts with her husband’s semi-monochromatic paintings and drawings. His oversized landscapes have been exhibited worldwide including the Venice Biennale. He has exhibited his work internationally and in many solo and group exhibitions. Park received both his BA and MFA at Hongik University. Ji Oh also holds her BFA and MFA from Hongik University and has shown her work throughout South Korea and has works in many prestigious collections.
On April 6, 2024, Choi and Ji Oh will offer a Sumi Ink workshop from 1-4:00 p.m.
and be featured at 7:00 p.m. by live-streamed broadcast on Facebook.
Both events will take place at
Robbers Roost, 185 West Main Street in Torrey, UT.
