In Bruce Robertson’s and Shelley Young’s January Mini Workshop called ”Light and Life: Painting the Figure in Watercolor,” we learned about gesture drawings, and the importance of quickly sketching the subject to capture “living figures” on paper. We were forced to work outside our comfort zones leading to many mistakes and failures. Failures always led to lessons learned – a key point which the presenters emphasized. Demonstrations outlined a process which started with sketch techniques, and continued with the use of texture, vibrant colors, and form – all of which added depth and character to the finished painting. Workshop participants enjoyed the sessions and commented on how the lessons opened the way for them to attempt painting a subject that previously was unapproachable. Thanks to Bruce and Shelly for a job well done!!
