CVC November Member Meeting
Achieving Strong Value Structure in a Painting
Tuesday November 8, 2022
Learn how to achieve a strong value structure in your paintings with Tom
Howard. Tom will demonstrate how to make the most of values in a
watercolor in creative ways. He has a reputation as an enjoyable and
experienced teacher and as one of Utah’s most respected watercolorists.
Also, the Scholarship Committee asks that we bring any donations to the
November meeting for the student recipient’s portfolio and paintings that
members are willing to donate for the silent auction in December.

President’s Message for November
After sharing some frustration with a friend about my goals and aspirations
I have for my art, he shared a quote with me by Sadie Valeri. It was on point and
something that I needed to hear:
“Don’t worry too much about whether you are ‘good enough’. The only thing that matters is how much personal desire you have to paint and it’s clear that you have plenty. Just try to stay positive. As artists
moments when we are truly enjoying ourselves while drawing or painting. Arrange your life to taste that pure enjoyment as often as possible, and the rest will follow.”
With a full-time job, children, grandchildren, and a large yard, finding the
time to feel that pure enjoyment is difficult. Plus, l life’s distractions help to keep
me from accomplishing some of my goals. However, I have really tried to apply
this thought into my personal practice. It hangs by my desk at work and in my
studio at home. I wanted the constant reminder that my artwork, the act of
creating, should be (and most of the time is) pure enjoyment. Isn’t that one of
life’s goals, enjoyment? I am also finding that if I concentrate more on the process
rather that the outcome, I can relax more and learn more. Although I want to get
better, improve my skills, and increase my business, I want to enjoy the journey
and make the most of the time that I do get to create.
My challenge to you this month is to apply this thought. How can you fulfill
your personal desire to draw, paint, or create in any way? Do everything you can
to find the time and then find that pure enjoyment as often as possible.
I would like to attend the next meeting. I am relatively new to watercolor, having started during the pandemic.
The next meeting for the main chapter is December 6th at 7:00 pm at the headquarters of the National Society of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers.3301 E Louise Ave, Millcreek, UT 84109. The Cache Valley Chapter’s next meeting is Dec 13, Lecture Hall

It would be helpful if you were to give the specifics of the error on the contact us page, in order for it to be corrected. THere were no apparent errors on testing.
